Diamond Flow: No it seems like a child just gave you her tiny savings out of the kindness of her heart. Your continued ruse seems to be working though as nobody else pays you any mind. The conversation with Talos continues, overheard via your primordial mastery of the elements....

Talos: "I am the commanding officer, and our watch was-Wait, you can't wake Taban!"

Taban meanwhile is much less uptight about this, dozily rising up and scratching her head. "Mmm? Is it already time for the old-Oh hello! A new friend!" She beams at Talos. "Did the raptors get you too? Aren't they fascinating?"

Naxos: You do see what you think are some guards, but as you follow them from your place of concealment through the city you find they're not going to the prison...they're going to Verdant Thorn who is apparently proclaiming himself in the dead center of the street, halfway to the temple. Is today 'surrender to the birds' day and nobody told you?!

Verdant Thorn: The armed circle around you is growing in numbers and amount of weapons aimed at your face. One of the warriors, the red-brown leader you recognize from Talos' surrender looks about ready to charge you as he speaks: "Oh yes, because the other one we just captured was so earnest too. It is just Dragon-Blooded coming out of the woodwork tonight, like maggots from a too long left hunt. No, you sir are going to go with us and-"

He's cut off by an echoing shriek from the temple, loud and keening. Then after a moment of silence it comes again.

"I...stand corrected. Our master summons you. And the captive Exalted. Fine, new plan, you go with us under guard to the temple and nobody gets their pinions plucked, clear?"

Verdant Thorn smiles as the shriek fades.

"The drops of rain make a hole in the stone, not by violence, but by oft falling," Thorn says calmly as he is surrendering to the armed guards. He lays down his staff, "Please treat this staff with care, the great spirits of the Earth are fond of it."

"Also, would you mind terribly if I smoked from my pipe as we walked, I find it is best to enjoy these experiences when one is more connected to the realm beyond our own," Thorn asks politely as he motions toward the temple.

((No rolls from me, I am willing to go with them w.o resistance.))

Diamond Flow is getting antsy.

The finger she uses to listen into the room beyond taps against the wall as she considers the situation. With her her fingers gently trailing to wall to maintain her connection into the room beyond, she walks around the building, looking for any new entrances - windows, trapdoors, other doors, secret entrances - anything to keep herself from doing the stupid thing and storming the entrance herself. She almost wants to shout out to Naxos, 'THAT IS WHERE I AM!' but it wouldn't do any good. She's got to get him to show her that trick.

She takes a deep breath. Given the information Naxos shared, she has to play this right. Without the Legions, they need every ally they can get. Her fingers and knuckles tingle but she steadies herself. There's still plenty of chance for them to have to fight this thing out.

They take the weapon from Verdant Thorn with caution. The one in the lead gives your pipe a glance. "Well it isn't a weapon. Keep it, groundling." The small entourage then marches off towards the walled temple, winding through the city streets with curious faces emerging from behind every door and window to see the monk that the unseen ruler had willingly summoned to its presence.

Diamond Flow: From your observation spot, you see a quartet of flying warriors alight on the ground and talk with the other guards, who then throw the door open. They enter and emerge a moment later with Talos and...V'Neef Taban in tow. Exciting times.

Naxos watches Verdant Thorn get captured and...huh, this is maybe not the worst plan possible, if it's getting us to the temple and their leader, and reuniting us, Naxos thinks. I'm not going to tell Talos that though, this all came out of pure Fire impatience and more than a little dumb luck.

He sends a brief message to Diamond Flow to that effect, and states he will be covertly following the group escorting Verdant Thorn, if she can somehow find Talos and the other group to follow, else, he notes to just look for the big temple.

That being said, Naxos continues to follow in stealthy pursuit of the guarded Verdant Thorn.

So where are we going if you don't mind my asking. Talos looks around to see wand examine what the guards are wearing. Also do they bind us in any way. So Taban what have you learned so far about these people?

Diamond Flow nods to a idle puff of wind that sees fit to speak to her in Naxos's voice. She finds she's in ultimate agreement. If things turn bad, it'll be best if they're all gathering up. Thorn's not a bad one to have do the talking in this situation either, as long as he manages to stay on task.

Watching as Talos and Taban are taken, Diamond Flow falls in step behind them from a safe distance away, shadowing them through the city as they go.

Verdant Thorn continues with the guards, he smokes his pipe as he walks, smiling as he passes some of the younger aven warriors. At one point with a quick expulsion and puff of violet smoke a small swarm of smokey butterflies leave his mouth, followed by a large violet ring that as it passes over them, dissipates them into the air.

With cautious steps and thoughtful actions Verdant Thorn continues to the heart of the temple.

Talos: You are unbound, but unarmed, and there's a half dozen avian warriors waiting for you when you emerge with Taban. Nothing you can't take as is your right and skill as a Prince of the Earth, of course, but they clearly don't know that.

The woman however is much more helpful to his inquiry! "Oh they're fascinating, they seem to be a rare beastman tribe who don't owe fealty to some Anathema warlord, they're quite the isolationists. They keep to themselves here, but focus reverence on this Crimson Raptor. I suspect a god, a powerful old one, related to birds. Maybe the god of all birds in the West, or of predatory winged creatures, or who knows! They really haven't volunteered much sadly. You'll find them distressingly close mouthed sometimes, but I have a way of getting to the heart of the matter or the matter getting to my heart and it all works out the same I suppose and wow I really should stop myself before this sentence gets any more out of hand."

She takes a deep breath of air at the end of that unceasing torrent of noise, and that's when Talos realizes they've trekked halfway across the city and are reunited with Verdant Thorn, who seems to have acquired his own armed escorts too. How gauche, he's biting on your 'voluntary prisoner' style!

Verdant Thorn: After a short wait, you are reunited with Talos, who in your absence has found V'Neef Taban! Good job, team.

And then, as one, the group of soldiers and prisoners with their secretly hidden Exalted stalkers takes off for the temple. The sound of trumpets greets you as you approach the walled compound surrounded the vibrantly red pyramid and the doors of the temple complex are thrown wide open allowing egress for the soldiers, for the prisoners, and for your growing crowd of observing locals. Talos and Verdant Thorn are genuinely generating a crowd as word spreads through the community like a wildfire about the Exalted interlopers, monks or dynasts or something of that like from Faxai-on-the-Caul.

Drums roll and the horns blare again as your group makes it to the courtyard, a wide stone space at the foot of the hundred foot high step pyramid. On every level, bas reliefs and jutting heads of predatory birds glimmer at you in the torch light that illuminates the thing. The locals shuffle in a mix of confusion and traditional reverence in this place, clearly not sure what your presence portends. Naxo and Diamond Flow, lost in the crowds, almost smell the unease which breaks like a rock dropped onto thin ice when there's another great screech.

Circling the tower on the wing, there appears as if from thin air a great, vibrantly red eagle the size of a small ship.

"CAW"

Its people cheer, and the Crimson Raptor alights atop the pyramid, sharp golden eyes locked on the Exalted below.

Talos

Takes a knee and lowers his head then waits for the raptor to give them there turn to speak.

As Diamond Flow follows the flow of the crowd, she shifts across it in her unassuming disguise. With a flick of her eyes, she catches Naxos and approaches him, murmuring a soft, "It's me. Follow." before tugging him to a nearby alleyway for a moment. "Let's get you to blend in better. We'll have an advantage if we get a drop on them. Although talking might work. Thorn's doing his old Woodlands Priest thing." There, she repeats her previous method of using found cast-off feathers to construct him a crude disguise, assuming he allows this. "Nice trick with the wind speaking by the way. That's a good one. Teach me later?" she adds, keeping her voice down the whole while.

Then, she pokes her head out into the street as she starts making her way around the periphery of the crowd and then moving in closer. She tries to gauge if the crowd is split off by social rank, and following that splitting, only seeking to push her luck so far.

((Sorry guys, was in Vegas, and now have family visiting in Seattle, if you guys ever are waiting on me send me a quick Discord poke and I'll get right on it))

Verdant Thorn stands before the large red bird, humbled and inspired. He pauses for just a moment, a comical thought crosses his mind, Diamond Flow is most likely out there somewhere, watching, waiting, I would expect nothing less of that one, getting ready to dawn her old war-chant of battle.

Just at the right moments Thorn show his respect for the ceremony. He shows no fear in the presence of the spiritual being, or the armed guards that have surrounded him, Talos and Taban. He merely looks up to the large creature atop the pyramid, and kneels gracefully, extending out an offering directly in front of him. A small satchel filled with rare herbs and a few precious stones he had on his person.

"Talos," Verdant Thorn whispers as his eyes look toward the ground, "do not speak out of turn, this creature is their deity, it would be unwise to speak unless spoken to.'

In this quite calm just after the bird makes its presence known Verdant Thorn concentrates his energy with his right hand firmly placed down upon the ground he is kneeling on it let's the latent energies of the temple flow into him. He is searching for answers as to the nature of this being. A small emerald light can be seen underneath his palm for just a split second before sinking into the stone floor of the temple.

Like a tree growing roots, I must become one with this place to fully grasp it's true name.

Thorn, the temple feels like a manse to his esoteric senses and awareness of the occult energies and ways of the world. It pulses with power, dragon lines converging beneath his fingers and running to the pyramid itself. Its a powerful one, if he could sense it like so with just a cursory extension of his essence. Not a terrestrial manse either, at least it doesn't feel like it clicks with the primal energies of his own spirit. Maybe he's just too woody? Who knows. This could use more study, in a less time pressured moment.

The moment of esoteric reverie is broken as the enormous bird hops down from on high with sudden energy, its way down guided by half spread wings and a 'gentle' flap as it nears the ground that buffets the crowd. The cheering community falls silent as the creature lands near you.

"Children of the Dragons." It speaks with a clear voice, modulating the volume down a bit so you aren't deafened by a repeat of that shriek. "First one." It cocks its head and stoops its great visage (and you note, extremely large and sharp looking beak) down to Taban's head level. Then it bobs its head over to Talos and Verdant Thorn. "Now two more, in my territory where your kind has been so kind as to not walk for...oh dear me, how long ago did your Empress burn the Raksha back? Six hundred years now? More?" It clacks its beak curiously. "And now three in one month. Why? First one to offer an explanation that isn't a hasty lie gets a prize." Is that prize not being eaten? Riches? Art?! "Why do you come to the sacred heartland of Haikel, the lord of predatory birds of the West?"

Diamond Flow: While this is all going on, your casing of the crowd displays a lot of anxiety underneath the religious exuberence of these people as their winged god appears. There's a tension underneath it all, which is brought right to the top by the silence that comes when the bird begins its direct questioning about your group's motivations and reasoning for being here.

Verdant thorn raises his head from his kneeling position and looks up to the great spirit before him.

"My hearth and I came only seeking the family of one of our members, V'Neef Taban who is a scholar and member of the Thousand Scales, serving under the Minister of Ten Thousand Forgotten Truths. She was charged with investigating ancient ruins and cultures so that the Realm could benefit from her gathered knowledge," Verdant Thorn pauses for a moment, "this was a mission of peace, we have no ill will or carry no false intent, we only seek to understand of great spirit."

As Verdant Thorn speaks he does so with mannerisms that best replicate the culture of the aven-like people around him. With his right arm, resting against the pouch on his thigh as he kneels he gathers a fist full of blessed germinated grains, ready to protect himself and his companions before the great bird at a moments notice if necessary.

((Verdant Thorn is prepared to use Seed and Salt Warding, if he deems the situation dangerous.))
